The Level 2 Award in MoT Testing Classes 4 & 7 is delivered over 4 days at our Training Centre in Astwood Bank, Redditch, this course is part theory and part practical, with successful candidates completing an online assessment and practical assessment. This course covers all aspects of MoT testing on Classes 4 & 7 vehicles, including: Classes and Standards, Lighting & Signalling, Steering & Suspension, Braking Systems, Wheels & Tyres, Seatbelts, Body & Structure, Exhaust Emissions,Drivers View of the Road, Health and Safety, Customer Focus and Support.
In order to take this course minimum qualification, conviction, licence and experience requirements apply.
Haven’t got the necessary qualifications? Don’t worry, there is still a route to becoming an MOT tester! Here at VIATS we offer the IMI Light Vehicle Inspection Accreditation, (Not required for Class 1 & 2 Motorcycle Testers). If you do not have the correct level of qualifications to become an MoT tester but have a minimum of 4 years full time experience in the workshop, then this accreditation is required in order to qualify for the IMI Level 2 award in MoT Testing. Taking place over 1 day this accreditation is designed to show that you have the necessary skills and knowledge to become a Tester. During the assessment you will carry out various tasks on a range of vehicle systems including: Steering Suspension Braking systems Electrical Diagnostics Engine Emission Systems (Including Scan tools) Vehicle Appraisal Online Assessments Once completed you can attend the IMI Level 2 award in MoT Tester Course IMI Level 2 Award in MoT testing Class 4 & 7.
Currently a tester and want to upgrade? Our Class V course will allow you to test this class of vehicle in addition to class 4&7.

HGV/PCV Inspection Training
VIATS deliver HGV/PCV Inspection Courses for your workshop technical staff, either at your premises at time to suit you or at our training centre. This courses are excellent for delegates who are heavily involved in the maintenance and preparation of vehicles for annual test or safety inspections. Benefits of training your staff – Correctly identify defects against annual test deficiencies, reducing your maintenance costs through correct wear and tear evaluation. Increasing the confidence that your company runs vehicle safely, legally and reliably, and minimising deficiencies at annual tests and on the roadside Our Trainers are ExDVSA/VOSA and are verified to be able to deliver courses. Our trainers are IRTEC and IMI approved.
2 day classroom HGV/PCV Inspection Course Full Inspection training to DVSA standards Delivered at our Training Centre in Astwood Bank, Redditch or at your premises. 1-2-1 course available if required.
3 day HGV/PCV Inspection Course As per 2 day course with the additional of full practical assessment. For courses at your premises all we need is a room and entry to your workshop, inspection equipment and 1 vehicle. 1-2-1 courses available if required.
1 day HGV/PCV Inspection Refresher Course Covering all updates by DVSA and an opportunity for inspectors to refresh their knowledge. Delivered at our Training Centre in Astwood Bank, Redditch or at your premises.
IRTEC Vehicle Inspection Technician Accreditation: This Accreditation is specially designed for HGV and PCV Technicians. Technicians who complete the IRTEC assessments are tested on both theoretical and practical skills, once completed an IRTEC Licence is awarded and is valid for 5 years after which a re- accreditation is required. IRTEC Accreditation : We currently offer the IRTEC Inspection Technician Accreditation for HGV and PCV. Eligibility: A Large Commercial Vehicle/Light Commercial Vehicle/Bus & Coach candidate must have a minimum level of relevant industry experience. Technicians can count experience in sub-sector as relevant such as LCV, LCOMV, or B&C in an appropriate role as follows. Inspection Technician 3 years minimum OR Hold a relevant industry nationally recognised competence qualification (SQV, NVQ, VCQ) as follows as well as a minimum of 1 years post qualification experience in an appropriate role. Re – Accreditation Any current IRTEC licence holder must undergo re – accreditation within 5 years of the award to maintain the IRTEC status

IMI Level 3 Award in MoT Test Centre Management
This Level 3 Award Qualification is aimed at new Authorised Examiners and their Designated Managers. It is also relevant for Site Managers roles within large organisations. It is a requirement that all Authorised Examiners have a fully trained member of staff at management.
The course is delivered over 2 days covering:
- Legislative compliance and requirements of a VTS
- Dealing with customers service problems and complaints
- Developing and supervising staff within a test centre
- Test centre quality systems and audits
- MTS ( MoT Testing Services) usage and requirements
Annual CPD Training
The DVSA changed how Testers must kept up to date by introducing annual CPD training in place of the five year to a yearly refresher course. Here at VIATS we offer the mandatory 3 hourly training CPD course, we can also arrange for the online assessment to be taken after the course.
This annual training must be completed and the online assessment results recorded by March 31st each year, failure to do so will restrict testers ability to carry out MoT testing.

Refresher Courses for MoT testers
This is for MoT testers who have not carried out an MoT test for up to five years. It includes the annual CPD training and online Assessment relevant to the DVSA requirement. The additional Refresher Training is tailored to the specific needs of the candidate and comes with a certificate of attendance recognised by DVSA as per the Training Requirements in the MoT testing guide.
